AIRTIGHT TV Special - August 1999 Client : Mighty Swine Designer : Tim Ferrier There must be a thing about Sydney, TV specials and Mad Scientists. Anyway this time Artist Elex were hired to safety test various practical lights and dress varuous locations with an electrical flavour, the most busy being White Bay Power Station. The film includes various streetscape scenes which were filmed at White Bay, and Festoon lighting and Neon lighting featured heavily. However more interesting things were happening upstairs in the olf Power Station Control Room, dressed as the Mad Scientists' Lab (He was looking for a formula to produce clean air..) The huge conglomerate of liquid filled balls in the middle of the room were obviously not put there by the Energy Authority. However the old and historic indicator board behind, was. This room, long thrown "dead" by the authorities, was "temporarily wired" by Artist Electronics to light up the indicator panel and make it appear active. The work took less than four hours to complete and greatly enhanced the overall look of the location for a very small additional outlay. Tragically, only 3 weeks after shooting in this location concluded, this very historic room suffered a break in and was severely vandalised, making these photographs the last ever taken of the White Bay control rooom before it was destroyed. |
