TRANSPORT HERITAGE NSW
NSW RAIL MUSEUM
THNSW plans, promotes and operates public tours and events involving Red Set F1 and sells tickets though their integrated ticket sales web site. THNSW are also the consulting heritage authority who authorise proposed changes and use of the heritage electric fleet and provide space for HET to carry out work.
The most effective way you can assist the F1 Project is to buy tickets on our tours and come for a ride!
If you’re interested in the operational aspects of Red Set F1 (i.e. where it goes, what public trips are run) then the best way to get involved is to become a Transport Heritage NSW Member and attend their meetings.
SYDNEY TRAINS
Sydney Trains provides crews, training, certification and train paths for operation of F1 and are responsible for ongoing maintenance. They also provide storage space before and after runs and operate special “shakedown” runs to ensure the train remains operational and crews remain certified.
If you are already an employee or crew member of Sydney Trains, there are occasional limited opportunities advertised in internal newsletters regarding Red Set F1. Keep a look out for these. Also, ask your supervisor if there is a way you can assist the project. In particular the F1 team are always on the look out for Sydney Trains fitters and electricians who would like to become qualified in repair and certification of Red Set F1.
HISTORIC ELECTRIC TRACTION
HET is a volunteer group who restore and carry out major repair and restoration work on F1 and provide engineering expertise in its operation. HET also provide a team of ten “door monitor” volunteers required whenever the train operates with public passengers. HET is based at Redfern Carriageworks, Eveleigh.
If you’re interested in the “nuts and bolts” operation of Red Set F1 and want to spend time in a focus group of passionate electric train fans like yourself, HET is the place for you.
Work days are held at Redfern Carriageworks every two weeks, or more often during busy times. Financial social membership of HET is a requirement if you wish to attend these work days and become involved and also assist as a door monitor on operations involving Red Set F1.
Active volunteers with HET qualify to assist with live “shakedown” runs of F1 when they happen. A unique experience on the internal operation of the train that money cannot buy!
