About Red Set F 1
One of the oldest working heavy rail electric trains in the world
Red Set F1 is a train made up of 1927 vintage “Red Rattler” Sydney electric single deck passenger cars. Operating from 1500vDC overhead on standard gauge track, there’s nothing in the world like the experience, smells and sounds of riding a Sydney Red Set. Recently restored to full operating condition, you can now come along and ride F1 around the Sydney Trains metropolitan rail network.
This web site is dedicated to telling the amazing story behind Red Set F1. How Sydney’s revolutionary reds came about, how they left their mark and how this one dodged death and the scrappers’ torch many times in order to make it in to the 21st century as an operating train set.
Come with us now and ride Red Set F1.
